Nickel recycling in chlor-alkali industry

To do nickel recycling well in chlor-alkali industry, you need to know which parts contain nickel or nickel alloys. Nickel alloy recycling mainly focuses on nickel alloy electrodes in electrolyzers, like nickel-iron alloy and nickel-molybdenum alloy. Nickel recycling targets coatings in ion-membrane electrolyzers—some use nickel-based coatings to resist rust better and conduct electricity more efficiently. Platinum anodes or platinum plated titanium anode used in electroplating also have high recycling value as industrial precious metals. Besides these, our website explains industrial scrap metal recycling in detail for chlor-alkali plants (like chlor-alkali electrolysis plants, water treatment facilities, electroplating shops, metal processing plants, chemical factories, and smelters) under the "Solutions" section. Note: This solution only covers platinum anodes and nickel recycling in chlor-alkali industry. It doesn't mean DONGSHENG only recycles nickel and platinum anodes.

Value of nickel alloy recycling

Nickel alloys have high nickel content (e.g., Inconel 600 contains ≥72% nickel). After recycling, they can be reused to make stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys, or battery materials. Current nickel recycling price is about $16,667–20,833 per ton. Rare elements in nickel alloys (like molybdenum/chromium) add extra value—recycling them cuts raw material costs. Discarded nickel alloys contain heavy metals; recycling prevents environmental pollution.

    Value of platinum anode recycling

Platinum anodes are used in PCB gold-plating and copper foil electroplating because they resist corrosion well and use less electricity (low oxygen evolution overpotential: 1.385V). Platinum ruthenium alloy acts as high-efficiency cathodes in fuel cells/hydrogen production, lowering voltage and making hydrogen better. Chlor-alkali industry also uses platinum plated titanium anode (see "Titanium Anode Recycling" page) and platinum catalysts for pharma and marine engineering. Recycling value comes from their high platinum content. *As of May 21, 2025, platinum averages $35.41/gram.
